Birds

I like to look at birds. You can check out what I've seen so far on eBird. Before my camera fell off a mountain, I also took pictures of them.

Puzzles

I solve (and occasionally write) puzzles of various kinds.

I am an avid participant in puzzle hunts (often as a member of Team Providence, with whom I won the 2026 MIT Mystery Hunt). Most years, you can also find me at the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament, where I tend to place in the lower middle of the pack.

I am a semi-active member of both the National Puzzlers' League (under the nom de plume Extra Credit) and LearnedLeague (username ShupeE).

From 2022 to 2023, I co-organized the Fort Worth chapter of Puzzled Pint.

Games

I sometimes build small apps and games.

  • Fasti Romani is a free iOS app for learning and drilling Roman history from the founding of the Republic through the Principate.
  • Domus is a work-in-progress text adventure written in Inform 7 about the history of the early Roman Empire. This project is mostly for my own enjoyment, but I am happy to share the .gblorb file with anyone who is interested.
  • The Baby Game is a one-page RPG that teaches consequentialist moral theory by way of a demon that eats children.
